First and foremost, I am a wife and mother! The most joy in my life is derived from creating engaging, educational, loving experiences for my family and friends. I delight in creating a happy, safe environment where children can thrive. Other titles include homeschooling mom of 18+ years, Registered Nurse, CPR Instructor, youth & children's leader at church. . . but the blessing of being a full time mom is #1. ♥ I am so happy to be offering summer day camp experiences in our Little Rock home this summer!  I run these camps out of my home classroom area, kitchen, living room, and spacious backyard. I have excellent local references available upon request.

★Each camp is a themed week of fun, friendship, and learning for ages 5-12

★Times are 9am-1pm Tuesday - Friday.

★I offer 10 openings per camp. The tuition fee per week is $50. The sibling or multiple camps discount is $45 per week. Tuition includes camp supplies, finished take home projects, and field trip costs. Full payment and registration forms are required 2 weeks before each camp's start date, or the space will open up to the waiting list. Emailed reminders will be sent.

★Bring a labeled lunch & labeled water bottle every day.

★Always come wearing sunblock and clothes for play! Your child will most likely end up 'wearing' some of the days' projects. Expect this and help them dress accordingly!

Email me to reserve space in the camp you are interested in: laughandlearnsummercamps@gmail.com. I will confirm by email that you have reserved a space. You will be notified if there is a waiting list.

Requirements: Your child must be in good health and without fever while attending camps. If there is any allergy information regarding food or anything else, please e-mail me this information upon holding the spot for your child. If your child has medication, such as an inhaler that he/she can take on their own, I will keep it in a safe place we agree upon for their use when they need it. If your child needs medication that must be adult administered, please come and help your child with that administration when they need it. When your child's space is confirmed, you will be emailed a required registration/emergency contact form to return. Please list any necessary health details on this form.

Each camp is completely run by me and hand-picked Camp Counselors. We will be outside in our backyard, and hiking around the trails near my home. During some teaching time, and if the weather is rainy, we will move to our home classroom. The exception would be Cooking Camp which of course is primarily in my kitchen and dining room areas---although we do go outside to play games and get wiggles out while our creations are baking!

Each week, activities will reflect the theme and we'll be going non-stop from the time camp starts until it’s time to leave for the day! While I have structure and expectations for what will be accomplished each day, I realize I am dealing with children and this is their summer vacation. After we have completed our daily programs, I love having free playtime in my backyard. This occurs primarily during short breaks between intense focus sessions and after lunch while we wait for pick-up. We eat between 11:30 and 12:00 each day.

If there is a need for refocusing behavior, I use time outs or cool-offs (which are the same but for older kids). If behavior is repeatedly unmanageable, I will call you to retrieve your child for the day. No refunds will be given for missed camp time due to behavioral issues. In my own parenting of my five children, I've always aimed for positive techniques that acknowledge feelings while simultaneously requiring respect and kindness to everyone involved. I plan to keep each child in camp engaged enough so as not to have to worry about behavior issues!

Each day ends at 1:00pm. There is a fee for late pick ups; please be on time! A $5 fee will be applied if you are 15 min. late, then a dollar a minute thereafter. Late fees must be paid before joining the fun the next morning.

You are more than welcome to come and meet me and see the area where we have our camps. Simply email me at laughandlearnsummercamps@gmail.com and we'll schedule a visit!
I look forward to meeting you and adding some fun to your summer!

Friday

Cooking Camp July 26-29

During the week of Cooking Camp we will be creating lots of yummy things to eat! We will practice the basics of following a recipe and learn to independently measure, mix, and bake:

  • Quick breakfasts
  • Lunches they can make on their own
  • Healthy, kid friendly snacks
  • Breads, muffins and cinnamon rolls
  • Treats

We'll be talking about healthy eating, food groups, how using "real", quality foods helps the body be strong, and learning about some famous chefs. We'll learn where food really comes from by grinding our own wheat and making fresh applesauce. The children will build confidence and delight in seeing separate, raw ingredients transform into delicious foods to eat!

Cooking Camp is currently slated to be using dairy and wheat products. We may use nut products if there are no allergies to these. If your child has any food sensitivities, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can re-work the recipes using products they can eat. As long as I am notified upon registration, I will make every effort to accommodate your child.

Throughout the week each child will be decorating and compiling their own mini cookbook of recipes they have learned how to make at camp, so the fun can continue at home! On Friday, we have a special tour set up at the Pulaski Technical College Culinary Arts Institute Building (south campus)! We will visit classrooms, learn about industrial cooking equipment, and see some amazing end-of-semester projects created by students (think cakes decorated in ways you've never imagined!). The children will learn a bit about what kind of education is required to earn degrees in the Culinary Arts, Baking, and Hospitality.

Each day, please have your child wear an apron with their name on it. Hair needs to be tied back out of their faces. Wear sunblock--we'll still have playtime outside while creations are in progress.

Photos of this week's fun will be posted through a secure link online for parents to download & save as they'd like. They will be available the weekend after camp ends.

Thursday

World Explorers Camp July 19-22

Get ready for a whirlwind trip around the world! Each day we'll dive into cultures, celebrations, foods, games, and customs specific to four destinations on our beautiful earth. This year get ready to "travel" to:

            • Australia
            • Brazil
            • Sweden
            • Mexico

Campers will learn and have fun discovering facts about what makes each country unique, including brief histories, landmarks, coloring corresponding flags and animals, making and tasting ethnic foods, and playing games children from around the world play. Come with a sense of adventure and be ready to discover places you've never known before!

Each child will use their own World Atlas as a resource as we explore our focus countries. They'll learn to use and reference a world map that they'll get to take home at the end of camp, hopefully with a love for each country and the exciting things they'll learn! On Friday, we will have a special outing to the Clinton Presidential Center to learn all about Olympic Events held around the world!

Sports & Games Camp June 28-July 1

Are your kids ready for an active, fun week of sports & games? Come join us! We'll be playing four square, improving our jump roping skills, having tetherball competitions, and learning creative games on the trampoline. We'll also play some lesser known, engaging versions of tag and enjoy games like the human knot and ninja!

A highlight of the week is making our own GIGANTIC backyard bubbles! And what summer would be complete without Simon Says and Mother May I?

Thursday is bring a scooter & helmet day if you have one (please send an extra if you can!). Weather permitting, Friday will be water play day, so come with a towel & swimsuit to change into!

We'll also have plenty of games to play inside as the weather heats up and lots of free time to enjoy favorites!

Tuesday

Animal Adventures Camp June 21-24

If your child is an animal lover, this camp will be full of fuzzy, creeping, crawling, leaping, flying, and swimmingly interesting fun!

Through games, activities, and crafts, the children will gain understanding about the amazing world of animals! Each day we will uncover facts & create projects to learn about each animal group, covering:

1. Mammals
2. Birds
3. Reptiles
4. Amphibians
5. Fish

We'll read, research, and play to find out what makes them different from other animal groups.  We'll learn what animals need to survive and how those essentials are found in each habitat. As we study areas from oceans to jungles, kids will become excited about the world we live in and how it supports animal life! We'll make human size spider webs as we learn about invertebrates! During our section on birds, we'll study nests, eggs, types of feathers, and make homemade bird feeders. Considering the huge selection of mammals to cover, I plan to get the children's input on what some of their favorites are--we'll learn how mammals are classified and then focus on some of our group's favorites!

Throughout the week we will be working on fact sheets, classification games, animal matching, and projects. Our studies will be supplemented with wonderful educational materials from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Working with the weather, we will go on short nature hikes to hunt for signs of animal life (tracks, nests, food and water sources). A fun part of this week is the study of Carnivores, Herbivores, and Omnivores. We will even have a special visit to the Little Rock Animal Village on Friday! You'll get to learn first hand about animal rescue, give treats to some of them, and even have some petting and playtime!

Photos of this week's fun will be posted through a secure link online for parents to download & save as they'd like. They will be available the weekend after camp ends.

Monday

Art Discovery Camp June 14-17

Art Discovery Camp is for children who LOVE art & to be able to make, create, try out and amaze you and themselves by the results! My goal is for every child who participates to be exposed to tools and ideas that you don't normally get to play with during school. I try to stay very in tune with the kids' desires here; we may get to everything each day or we may only get to 2, depending on their enthusiasm, ages, depth of difficulty and level of interest. We will explore:

  • Clay: making salt dough creations and Polymer Clay
  • Paint: watercolor techniques, color wheels, mixing paint mediums
  • Drawing: small hike to draw in nature with pencil and charcoals, mosaics
  • Pastels: oil and chalk pastels, colored pencils
  • Fun Art: thumbprint art, finger paints, and colored rice creations!

Each day we will learn about a different style of a famous artist, and try our hand at imitating their style. Art Appreciation will come alive as we play games and examine similarities and differences in art from around the world!

Throughout the week, each child will complete projects and art to take home on Friday. We will be using many different materials and will get messy, so please be in play clothes! Photos of this week's fun will be posted through a secure link online for parents to download & save as they'd like. They will be available the weekend after camp ends.
